Information Technology Apprentice Position Description

Company Overview:

Social Enterprise Success empowers young and eager new professionals (Apprentices) in applying knowledge and skills by serving community organizations. Apprentices support community organizations with implementing successful business practices to sustain their operations and further their mission.

Position Overview:

Apprentices positively impact the community and engage in business practices similar to a business owner in a start-up venture. This is NOT an internship it is an Apprenticeship. An Apprenticeship is a meaningful service-learning experience that is team-based. Apprentices learn from leaders in the industry and receive on-going support to implement the same business activities and practices that a CEO of a start-up company would implement.

Information Technology Apprentices have the opportunity to focus on two or more specific tasks based on choice, availability, and the needs of the community organization(s). Tasks may include:

  • Work as part of a project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations.
  • Test, maintain, and monitor computer programs and systems, including coordinating the installation of computer programs and systems.
  • Develop, document and revise system design procedures, test procedures, and quality standards.
  • Provide staff and users with assistance solving computer related problems, such as malfunctions and program problems.
  • Determine computer software or hardware needed to set up or alter system.
  • Develop computer information resources, providing for data security and control, strategic computing, and disaster recovery.
  • Consult with users, management, vendors, and technicians to assess computing needs and system requirements.
  • Meet with department heads, managers, supervisors, vendors, and others, to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.
  • Provide users with technical support for computer problems.
  • Modify existing software to correct errors, allow it to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance.
  • Develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
  • Analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
  • Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure specifications are met.

Location of Assignment:

A majority of the work will be done remotely and must be available for phone and/or Skype meetings. Depending on location of apprentice, possible in-person meetings and planning sessions in San Diego County.


Expectations:

  • Report to and work with supervisor
  • Professional and respectful demeanor (Please remember, you are representing Social Enterprise Success as a volunteer in the community).
  • Call or email supervisor 24 hours in advance if unable to attend scheduled commitment.
  • Communicate with supervisor when project is completed or if issues arise.
  • Provide own computer and phone.
  • Assist in recruiting and training the next Information Technology Apprentice as a replacement.


Schedule Commitments:

  • Apprenticeships last between four and six months. Extensions are available based on performance.
  • Approximately 20 – 40 hours per month minimum of 5 hours per week on agreed upon day or days. Full time internships maybe available. Hours may vary and are flexible to meet the needs of the Apprentice’s schedule.

Associate Project Analyst

DESCRIPTION

An Associate Project Analyst assists our customers to improve performance and align business processes/IT with critical business strategies. The Associate Project Analyst functions as the advocate for the customer’s users and executive team in the design and implementation of enabling technology solutions.
